Hefeweizen is a cloudy wheat ale that originated in (Bavaria) Germany. The direct translation is hefe-yeast weizen-wheat. Yeast in the name refers to the fact that this beer is unfiltered and remains cloudy thanks to the suspended yeast. This yeast also contributes the unique banana and clove qualities to the aroma and flavor of hefeweizen.

these guys do a real nice hefe, has all the necessary elements, and its quite flavorful for being is light in body and mouthfeel as it is. very nice in the hot summers here, and pretty true to style overall. paler straw yellow in color than some of the brighter denser yellow ones we are used to seeing, but with a familiar soft hazy to it and a tall and active white head. the aroma is almost all yeast, banana for sure, less clove than many but still with that spice element to it as well, and with a somewhat lighter raw white wheat base in general. drier too though in both nose and taste, but without sacrificing the distinctive creamy feel i like in the style, a nice sort of easier going rendition i reckon. hints of lemon accentuate the banana aspect in the taste, with a bit of white pepper and white grape in there too, its pretty layered for being so delicate. great carbonation, a quick finish, and a beer that demands to be consumed pint after pint. i dont really know these guys for their innovation so much as i do for their very classic interpretations of old world styles. this is excellent hefeweizen overall.

Presented in a standard shaker pint. Very thick and whipped creamy white head. Nice head retention and really great lacing. Color is a bright yellow, though super hazy. You can see light through it, but you can't see through it.
Smell has a mild fruit and banana esters. Hints of clove. Taste has more of a dry wheat bitterness, with the fruit backing it up.
Mouthfeel is actually very heavy and filling. This is the chewiest hefe I've ever had. It's not bad, but I would not be able to session this. Very glad it was the last ber of the night, because it would be a one beer night.

This German-style wheat ale presents with a hazy brownish golden color and no lasting head. The huge banana aroma is quite prominent. The banana ester yeast flavor is coupled with a the perfect body and right on carbonation. The nice fruity finish rounds off a tasty brew.
