The Belgian Dubbel is a rich malty beer with some spicy / phenolic and mild alcoholic characteristics. Not as much fruitiness as the Belgian Strong Dark Ale but some dark fruit aromas and flavors may be present. Mild hop bitterness with no lingering hop flavors. It may show traits of a steely caramel flavor from the use of crystal malt or dark candy sugar. Look for a medium to full body with an expressive carbonation.

Traditionally a Trappist Ale, many brew similar "Abbey Dubbels" to try and emulate the originals (Trappist Westvleteren 8, Westmalle Trappist Dubbel & Chimay)

This special Ale was brewed in the beginning of January, twice fermented over the next month or so, aged in Oak Bourbon barrels for a couple of months, then aged in our icehouse… til now!

Spicy Belgian yeast and a dark malty body compliment notes of dried fruit and mild charred oak. There are plenty of flavors to pick out.

A - Poured a clear, burgundy color with a small, tan head of bubbly foam. It had okay retention and left some sudsy lace.

S - It smelled of dried fruits - raisin and plum with some caramel maltiness.

T - Good dried fruit flavor with some cinnamon spiciness. There was a nice bready malt backbone.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a dry finish.

O - This is a pretty unique dubbel. That cinnamon flavor was quite unique.
