Blackberry Tart

i like the blackberry in this. its more forward than in other blackberry wilds without making the beer too sweet, a real success. it seems like this is early on in the process of making wilds for these guys though, im not sure the timings are dialed in yet. the body is too light and there isnt enough carbonation on it, two things i really focus on in wild ales. i do like the flavor though, the yeast is just puckery enough without being an enamel burning drink. the berry is as forward in the finish as it is in the start, and the malt base, while being a little stagnant, is pleasant in flavor, a little more toast than others, which is appreciated here. i think its well thought out, but in need of some polishing and buffing out. my first beer from mccoys is an ambitious one, quite drinkable, and i am excited to see what it becomes in time.

edit: had a recent batch of this on my last trip to kansas city, and it was awesome, much improved from a technical standpoint and even more pronounced blackberry flavor and clean sourness. nicely improved since the first time i had it!

A - Looks like blackberries in a glass, kind of purple, off-white head, thin collar.

S - Nice level of tartness, fresh blackberries, not "fake" or syrupy sweet at all. Pretty straight-forward, but it is what it is, and that's what matters.

T - Slightly sweeter then the nose suggests with a nice tart kick in there as well. I think there's less blackberry fruity notes and more sweetness, but I don't see that as a bad thing. The tart fruity notes work well with the sweetness. Finish is more tart then sweet, and the blackberry notes come through there as well.

M - Light heading towards medium, good carbonation, sweet semi-dry finish.

O - A pretty decent Wild offered up here. I enjoyed how fresh the blackberry notes were, and it was right down the middle between sweet and sour. Would definitely try more Wild offerings from McCoy's, if able to acquire.

A - A murky brown bodied beer with a little bit of purple in it. Beige head rose up a couple of fingers and left a little bit of stick on the glass. Not particularly attractive, but fine for a darker looking sour.

S - Smells pretty malty. There is some sweeter blackberry notes that mingle with the malts and have a nice, but a bit subtle, blackberry aroma.

T - A sour with some meat on it. It's not as light and effervescent as many. Malty taste up front, with blackberry flavor mixed in. The finish became surprisingly tart and acetic after a while, which gave it a nice kick. It tastes good and is easy to drink, although I wish the blackberry flavor came through more.

M - A little syrupy, with a medium body that felt a little bit heavier some how. Lively carbonation and a slightly drying finish.

O - A good beer, easy to drink, I went back for a couple of pours and we killed the growler pretty easily. Would recommend and gladly drink again. If future batches get a little more blackberry in there this could be a real winner.
