On cask for Cask & Ye Shall Receive held at MacLeod Ale Brewing Company in Van Nuys, CA.
Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is slightly tart with dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, milk chocolate, and chocolate syrup aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, milk chocolate, chocolate syrup, and coconut flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that has definite chocolate qualities, but I think something in the process caused this one to go slightly tart.
Serving type: on cask.
