Midnight Special pours a deep chestnut brown hue topped with a one finger dense white head. Sweet malt aromas and flavors of caramel and chocolate. Some light smoky notes. The oak aging imparts toasty notes of vanilla, mocha, toffee and coconut. Hops play only a supporting role to bring nice balance to this full-bodied beer with a relatively dry finish. Overall, a great late night experience.

On tap at Mohawk Bend in Los Angeles, CA.
Pours a murky honey orange with a foamy tan head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, caramel, and some fruity aromas. Taste is much the same with a slightly sour flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is drinkable but the sourness is a bit weird.

Pours very dark, amber. Smells of roasted oats, leather and figs.
Starts out tasting like dried fruit leading into a roasted burnt note that lingers with some smokiness. The backend is a complex flavor, very enjoyable.
Mouthfeel is somewhat thick and feels appropriate for the taste. Wouldn't want it any lighter for the abv.
Overall it's a nice scotch ale worth trying for sure, don't know if I would buy a growler of it however.

Sampled 12/23/2010 at the brewpub.
Pours brown/black with some red, clear, beige head, good retention, not much lacing (surprising for nitro).
Aroma is roast (underlined) and caramel but not much else. Nice though.
Flavor is surprisingly light in all aspects. Roast, caramel, and smoke are present but light. Good balance between the existing flavors. Low bitterness, just some astringency from the roast. Maybe some woody flavor.
Body is very creamy (nitro, duh), moderately heavy, and pretty drinkable.

"MIDNIGHT SPECIAL -Special Seasonal ABV 7.2% (120 Shilling)
Just in time for winter break and late night toasts, we released our newest seasonal brew - Midnight Special - a strong Scottish-style ale with some special twists. Brewer Dave hand-roasted special malts to add rich color and flavor. And while we're fond of ageing our beers in wine barrels, this time we put the barrel in the beer! Sacrificial staves of Sauvignon Blanc barrels imparted fire-toasted oak flavors for 12 days, and a nitrogen push finishes the pour with a creamy ivory head."
