Appearance: Arrives with a garnet-influenced copper color; somewhat cloudy with a nice head that leaves sheets of lacing
Smell: Quite vinous, with a strong red wine grape character
Taste: The red wine flavors are bold (this was aged in a Mourvèdre barrel, after all) and dominate the front, which also brings a grape jam character; by mid-palate, the oak adds its influence, along with a developing tart and slightly funky character; the finish brings in some raspberry tones, adding a sweet dimension
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation
Overall: A really interesting beer; the best example of a red wine barrel treatment that I have had since I tried the Westbrook series a few years ago
