This seasonal IPA is aromatic, earthy and bold. Amber-hued but bright with flavors of pine and citrus from MI Chinook, Perle, Pacific Northwest Centennial hops. The combination of hops and spruce tips give way to a harmonious resinous mash up. The mellow malt character and towering hop profile create an effervescent IPA as stately as a Spruce.

I know this says it is “retired” but it is a great seasonal IPA. Lovely golden caramel colored pour with a fine foam head. Light citrus notes on the nose. First taste is of bitter orange peel that reveals a piney essence and as it lingers, I can imagine a splash of maple syrup. It is certainly a bitter, hop-forward beer but enjoyable.

$1.79 for a 12oz can. 7.5% ABV, 55 IBU. Hopped with Chinook, Cascade, Michigan Cascade and simcoe. Brewed with spruce tips, orange peel and maple syrup.
Pours out to a near clear deep amber, forming a tall sticky bright yellow head. Quite yellow. Very interesting, you don't see this very often. The nose is mostly chinook, lots of pine, basically smells like Arrogant bastard. I don't get spruce or orange peel or maple syrup. The mouthfeel is sticky, medium-dense bodied, carbonation is slightly prickly, ~2.75 carbs or so. All the hops contribute to a pretty acidic IPA. The taste is well, piney. Fair amount of woodiness in the aftertaste. Bitterness is quite firm, more than I'd prefer. Finishes bone dry. Again, don't get orange peel or maple syrup or spruce tips in the taste. These are completely overwhelmed by the hops. No off flavors or aromas.
Meh. This doesn't do much for me. I'm not a fan of really bitter IPAs, and this is a bit much for me. With so many amazing IPA's out there, I can't really recommend this one.
