Fermented in barrels containing Belgian Gouden Carolus Single Malt Whiskey. This is the fruit of a cooperative Belgian effort between the Flemish and the Walloons, united through their passion for exceptional products. The secret: triple fermentation and a long process, lasting almost eight months! The "Grande Réserve Barrique" is a Chimay Bleu, fermented in barrels, but not just that: only after an initial traditional fermentation, a fermentation and maturation in barrels for several months – with sugar and fresh yeast added – followed by a final fermentation in the bottle for three weeks, can the Grande Réserve Barrique be sampled... only after an 8-month wait.

My first time to try a barrel aged beer
The beer looks great, the smell however is dominated by a spicy pine wood note that i really dislike, fortunately this does not come through to much in the taste. It feels a bit thin.
Overall a bit disappointing, not better than the regular Grand reserve.

750 ml corked & caged bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 10.5%. Clear reddish brown colour, huge off-white head. Lovely aroma of malts, brown sugar, caramel, dark dried fruits, oak and whisky. Pleasant and medium sweet flavour with the same elements as the aroma, moderate hops.
