Wife and I go here all the time. She likes to smoke and I like craft beer. The Pub is like the McSorley's of Fredericksburg, just 'cuz Fredericksburg is that lame.
The authenticity of this bar is top notch, no pretense whatsoever. They have been brewing longer than anyone in town I know of and seem to have no interest in taking advantage or the trend. The Red, the Chancellor Ale, and their Porter are decent to good. The beer recipes are inconsistent but have evolved well over the years. Sometimes the brews are very solid and sometimes they cut the price in half if they don't come out well.
Food is OK and fairly priced.
This is a good bar, better than my numbers show, especially if you smoke. The "had a good time at the bar" % is very high compared to other bars in this town.

The food is very good and the portions are big. Besides the standards on tap, the brewery beers are making a comback.Iwo jima red , chancellor Pale and Porter, to name a few. I am looking forward to the seasonals! They have daily food and beverage specials, I suggest Monday wings and Thursday Shrimp nights. The pub also boasts a large but cozy non-smoking side. The Pub is also known locally for their soups and Fish and Chips. With a friendly atmosphere and a great staff I am happy to reccomend The Pub and Battlefield brewery to everyone!

Whilst returning home from a daunting midday Christmas shopping experience, I found myself recalling the location of this establishment. I pondered what it could mean. I went in for a gander. The Pub. A little restaurant side on the left, I assume this is nonsmoking. The bar, however, is definitely smoking. And everyone was smoking. Even though it was 2 in the afternoon, there was a small crowd. Lots of taps, mostly all of it crap, Bud Light, Miller Light, Guiness, etc, etc, then 4 or 5 house taps. I tried several of the beers. The pale was infected, the IPA was watery, but the porter was pretty good. I'm not sure what the angle of this place is. Clearly they're not catering to people who like good beer, so why go through the hassle of brewing? Weird. Anyway, the bartender was friendly and the conversations jovial. She comped my infected beer even though she said that's just how it tastes. She also doesn't drink that beer. Ah well. Might stop back in at some point in the future. $4 pints of mediocre shit is kinda hard to swallow, though.
