So what does this brewery have in store for me? Whitehead is a brewery southwest of Porto Alegre, and was turned into a business from a homebrewing hobby. Good thing, because Southern Brazil could sure use more quality choices. On to the beer:
The first impression is good. The beer posesses a rich autumn orange color, with hues ranging from amber to yellow. There´s some lacing sticking to glass, and a thin creamy head staying on top. It´s too bad the aroma is low on power. Mostly a fruity nose and not a lot else.
Things rebound as it is drunk. Sweet, but within enjoyment. Definately fruity at first, reminiscent of strawberries. Add in some tasty carmael, an echo of cane sugar, and a dash of bittering hops towards the end, and you have yourself a treat! The body is not bad at all either. Oh, and the alcohol is hidden too. It´s pretty smooth, and not that heavy.
Whitehead Super 8 is just what the doctor ordered after a long night of drinking mediocre lager. Flavorful and smooth. My first run-in with Whitehead is a good one. Recommended.
