I didn´t even know Whtehead made a porter, but it was on the menu at Armazen Agua de Beber (Porto Alegre, Brazil). From a stubby 600 ml bottle, on to the beer:
Black, black, black. As black as charcoal. The long lasting, slightly tanned head helps matter too. Slightly fruity in the nose, not much of a porter nose really. Hmmm....
At first sip, it didn´t taste so hot, but the beer grew on me as I drank it, because there is less roasted flavor and more of a soft grapey and caramel profile. Very light with the coffee notes. Phenols make a touch here and there. The light aftertaste of slightly astringent malt reminds me that this is a porter. Good, medium bodied beer, and pretty smooth as well.
Not bad. It leans towards the English side rather than the American side with its softer flavor profile. It´s worth a go.
