Appearance - This poured a deep malty brown in color with a moderate off-white head.

Smell - There are a lot of nuts in this aroma along with oatmeal and light raw sugar. The nuts resemble walnuts.

Taste - The walnuts from the nose came through in the taste but they were somewhat dull and not as sharp as I had hoped. The sugars though got bigger in the mouth for an offsetting surprise.

Mouthfeel - This was a bit thin for the flavors, a notch above light-bodied, and I thought a bit clumsy in the cheeks.

Drinkability - This was OK but somewhat confusing. It is in fact a very nutty beer but lacked the smoothness that one comes to expect from the style. This should be a highly sessionable beer but it didn't flow well. It wasn't bad, just not worth remembering.

On-tap at Callahan's

A: The pour is an almost amber brown color with a fairly minimal off-white head.

S: There is a fair bit of nuttiness and perhaps a bit of chocolate to the nose. There are some toasty malts and caramel sweetness as well.

T: The nuttiness and chocolate flavors are present as you might expect. Unfortunately, there is an almost chalky bitterness (aspirin?) to the beer that really ruins it.

M: The body is a bit on the light side with the aforementioned chalkiness and a moderate carbonation.

D: Not one of the better offerings from Callahan's. There are certainly better brown ales available, so I would suggest going with something else.

Overall: Not bad, reasonable pub beer, but not something I would search out again

On-tap at Callahan's, San Diego.

I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this yet. Pours a dark brown color with a filmy off-white head. Good aroma of light roasted malts. Malty roast flavor with a bit of cream. Some hints of sweetness. Medium-bodied with light carbonation. A simple beer, but solid and pretty tasty - easy to drink too. One of the better house options from Callahan's.

A - Dark brown with a carbonated head, dissipates quickly. Not much lacing.

S - Good hints of Carmel and ale, not much alcoholish smell

T - Ale, caramel and toffe notes but very medium and thin.

M - Carbonated and medium to thin body.

D - Drinks well with hints of ale and caramel, great drinker but wished it had more of an alcohol taste.
