Off tap at the brewery this beer was a dark brown color with one finger of tan head. The retention was good and the lacing spotty but consistent. The aroma was subtle but pleasant; a mix of roasted malt, chocolate and a hint of hops. The flavors were balanced between chocolate and roasted malt with enough hoppy bitterness on the finish to balance the malt elements. The mouthfeel was good, the body medium/full and the carbonation on the light side. A good example of the style and a nice rotating beer worth trying if you’re fortunate enough to have the chance.

It was handed to me with a soapy tan head that quickly settled to nothingness. Color was a deep, dark brown with ruby highlights. Nose was a pleasant mix of smoke and chocolate. Mouthfeel was slightly thin for a porter, but the smokiness really asserted itself on the tongue. The finish was very chocolaty. I kind of wished that it could have managed to settle on one taste or the other instead of being a mix of the two. Not bad, but I have had both better and worse.

This porter came in a pint glass and had a small, dissipating head. The color of the beer was a dark brown, bordering on black. The smell had aromas of dark roasted malt, a bit of plum and fruit, and some other complex aromas. The taste was a full and rich body with a good hop flavor as well. I believe that the hop bitterness was a bit strong for my porters, but it was still fairly well-balanced. The mouthfeel was medium/thick and the beer had a medium/low carbonation. I enjoyed this beer and it's quality and I believe it was quite drinkable, especially with a meal. It's a seasonal beer, so it's only available in the winter months.
