Pours hazy mahogany with amber hues. A thin, off- white head rose and dissapated quickly.
Aromatics lead off with sherry, oak-steeped figs, maserated raisins, and chipped toffee. Very complex and vineous. Some mild oxidation doesn't detract.
The mouthfeel is thickish and slick. Light carbonation allows the layers of flavor to peel away at fir sip.
The pallet is laden with more vineousity and sherry character.
Bitterness is firm, and the residuals linger without being overly sweet. Some tannic oakyness complements the brew without being overdone. Nicely balanced and warming.
Leaning in a british direction, but more like a big, old ale.
Finishes with an undercurrent of black cherries, some light roast, and lingering maltiness.
Big thanks to my buddy Mike for hooking me up.
Tasty brew and mucho complex.
