Growler from 2006.

Pours opaque black with barely translucent edging of dark mahogany. A quarter inch head struggled out of solution, and settled back to several whisps of tan foam.

Aromatics lead off with a blend of dark chocolate, charred malts, espresso, and vineous wine. Dried stone fruits and roasted malt follow though with the wine-like tannins.

On the medium side of full bodied. Tacky and lightly chewy. A bit crisp from the vineousity.

Tart fruit, bitter chocolate, espresso grounds, and smoldered embers lead off the pallet. Red wine essense steps forward through the lingering roast. A mild tartness builds to an almost grapefruit zest acidity.

Finishes with lingering tartness, bitter roast, and warming alcohol.
Very complex for the style, although the tartness builds as you go.
