On tap @ Red Brick Station on 5/9/09. Served in an oversized Weizen glass.
Pours a deep muddy brown that is topped with a 1/2 finger of creamy light tan head. Retains at about the same level, with a rich and frothy look that leaves some great looking lace back. The aroma is sweet wheat notes, with hints of cinnamon and clove, and a good bit of yeasty banana aromatics which gives the nose a tasty smelling edge. Some light warmth is present and as this warms the flavors even out, giving this the feel of a smooth smelling fume.
The taste is a big bready wheat sweetness up front that forms the base for a really solid amount of spicing to this, which gives the profile some nice zip. I'm also pleased to find a nice flush of yeasty banana that especially stands out in the finish. Bitterness is low in this, allowing the malts, yeast, and spicing to come out nicely. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with it maybe coming off just a touch thin, but this is in the lower end, ABV wise, for the style. Overall, this has a pretty easygoing carbonation to it, remaining crisp and refreshing on the palate.
This one was a little iffy at first but once it warmed up properly, I was treated to a nicely done Dunkelweizen. This was quite tasty and refreshing on tap, I could have gone for another glass of this easily.
