Headed over the SDBC for lunch today. I had sampled the Ax Pickin' Stout last weekend at the SD Strong Ale fest. I was pretty good at the fest.
It was served to me in a goblet. It is a dark black beer with amber highlights. Moderate carbonation. The tan head of fizzy bubbles do not stay around for long. Little to no lacing.
Nice aroma of caramel, chocolate, and roasted malts. Hints of mild hops and alcohol.
This beer had a nice flavor of chocolate, caramel and roasted malts. Dry finish with a light bitterness. I can taste the alcohol in finish. Nothing memorable, I figured with the word "Imperial" in the name the taste would pack a punch.
This beer is good for SDBC but doesn't deserve the name "Imperial" I would just call it a stout.
Cheers!
