Being a malthead and being one to eat Munich Malt right out of the bag for breakfast, I figured I would be reminded with this Dunkel. Sadly, I was mistaken.
The .3L glass from the tap arrived with a 3 finger head that dissipated to a slick of brown foam maintained but the bubble release within minutes. i.e., no head retention. While Munich malt is not notorious to be a like a crystal malt for head retention, with better carbonation the brown foam head would be maintained. In this case it was not. Colour was amber-brown, more brown. Beer was cloudy, but advertised as filtered.
Smell: Butterscotch candies came to mind, but sweet note (on smell).
Taste: Diacytl flavour (definitely not the sweetness from Munich malt). Slightly mealy flavour too, with mouthfeel that had a slick sweet aftertaste that haunted me for some minutes until my next beer. Left me craving bread to cleanse my palette.
