Our Wee Heavy, also known as Strong Scotch Ale, is malty with just enough hop bitterness to balance the sweetness. Traditional English malts and Fuggle hops combined with an extended boil (over 3 hours long) creates a complex aroma and wonderful deep color with a taste of caramel and hints of dark fruit.

Pours a cloudy, dark amber color. 1/4 inch head of a white color. Slight retention and decent lacing. Smells of sweet malt, yeast, slight spice, and hops or herbs. Fits the style of a Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, herbal dryness, slight roasted malt, and spice. Overall, gets much better as it warms, but more of a sweet, winter warmer than a Wee Heavy.

A: Poured into a snifter, medium amber, thin head.
S: Caramel & malt dominate.
T: Same as above. Sweet, some slight alcohol burn. A bit lighter than traditional Weeheavy's.
M: Medium. Again, not as "chewy" as many Wee's.
D: Even with the 8% abv, it's easy to drink more than one. Many other bigger Wee's, you can't do that. Great first effort from a new brewery.

Wee Heavy is rumored to be around 10% ABV, but I cannot confirm that. In any event, it's the first high octane beer out of this recently opened brewpub.
Pours a dark amber typical of a Wee Heavy, with very little head. Aroma is a bit muted, though the beer is not served excessively cold. Notes of caramelized malts are present in the nose. The mouthfeel is a bit thin for Wee Heavy, in my opinion, although the carbonation level seems appropriate. The flavor is pleasant enough, but not what I was hoping for, nor what I was expecting. There's a bit of caramel, chocolate, and brown sugar going on, of course, but I could not discern any smokiness, which I prefer. I do admit that it's unfair to knock a beer for not displaying a characteristic that isn't required of the style. The finish is too hoppy for my tastes in any interpretation of a Scottish or Wee Heavy. My chief complaint, though, is a lack of depth in the flavor. I like to taste full, complex, darker malts and this beer almost seems to have the flavor of a 60 Schilling, with the booze ramped up to the Wee Heavy category. But again, it's certainly tasty enough to quaff a pour and enjoy it, so I'll stop the criticism there.
