16 ounce pour - $6.50 at Taco Mac in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Appearance: Darkish brown body, though some burnished gold at the far edges. Slim, beige-hued head.
Smell: Lightly torched grains, a hint of coffee and some modest chocolaty notes with a slight, light fruitiness.
Taste: Powderized chocolate, burnt marshmallows and a dark fruitiness, with the figs not really standing out against the standard background esters. Splash of old, cold coffee. Mildly hopped, minimally bitter. Lightly sweetish finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium-light carbonation.
Overall: So-so. I will respect the restraining order.

"Ruby-brown and rich with aromas of chocolate and coffee. This porter captures the last big of summer with dark fruit sweetness from fresh-picked figs and caramel malts." Brewed in the style of an American Porter with figs added. Available in 12 oz. bottled 6 packs and on limited draft.
Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to a Jailhouse Brewing pint glass. Served above 57 degrees Fahrenheit.
(Appearance) Pours a foamy frothed mocha tan head over a fairly translucent deep caramel body with maple highlights. Carbonation is lively and plentiful. Retention is good and lacing is light and patchy. 3.5
(Smell) Restraining Order generates aromas of medium roasted malt forward, soft notes of earthy coffee bean, bittersweet cocoa nibs, thin toasted caramel syrup, some light bread malts, a moderate sweetness. The figs don't generate much unique character to contribute to the aroma, although I suspect they impact the aromatic sweetness, which is slightly more forward than other porters of this type. Potency is moderate. 3.75
(Taste) The flavor generates a forward sweetness up front with a light viscosity, perhaps some fermented fig syrups alongside a caramel malt body, but otherwise, the figs do not generate unique flavors for this beer. The body is moderate for the style, but has its distinctive characters of roast, toast and char that keep things interesting. Restraining Order finishes on a note of tepid roasted barley with baker's chocolate and charred malts lingering well after the finish. 3.75
(Mouthfeel) The texture is smooth and clean, lightly viscous and modestly dry. The carbonation is progressive, generating a medium frothiness and a full crisp finish. The body is medium+ for an American Porter and medium+ overall. Balance is slightly sweet over earthy bitter and roasty. Alcohol presence is low and there are no notable off flavors. 3.25
(Overall) Always welcoming a healthy variation on a classic ale style, I was excited to see what the inclusion of figs would do for an American Porter. The fig itself doesn't generate a profoundly unique flavor but has the potential to enhance the body and sweetness, both which were driven up a bit over the median for the style. I found the carbonation a bit excited and the roast malt profile slightly underwhelmed, overshadowed by the heightened body, which sits this beer on the slightly heavier-drinking side of American Porters. Altogether it's an enjoyable porter with its subtle caveats, but I don't expect these small quips to ruin the drinking experience for anybody. This beer was very difficult to find in packaged form, and is not widely distributed in my area, nor to any of the big name package stores in the Atlanta Area. I would not have known that this beer existed if I hadn't come across it unexpectedly. If you can find it, give it a try. 3.75
