No label information. Incarceration is brewed in the style of a Belgian Strong Pale Ale, available as a one-off brewed release in the Solitary Confinement Series, released Summer 2014 in 22 oz. bottles and on limited draft.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle to a tulip glass.

(Appearance) Pours a bold head of a crisp foam consistency, pale off-white over a mildly hazy golden amber body with moderate, lively carbonation and high clarity. Retention is very good and lacing is light and spotty. 4.25

(Smell) Aromas of crisp pale and sweetened wheat build a soft and approachable malt base with yeast-borne fruit notes of trace lemon, lightly tart white grapes and apricot juice, very little alcohol discernible in the aroma. Nice aroma with an high accessibility to it. Potency is moderate. 3.75

(Taste) Very light body, mostly pale and some light cracker malt with traces of wheat body, a fruity apricot midsection, finishing on a drying note of tart grape juice, muted grains and a relaxed drag of alcohol. The specialty malts come through a bit bolder in the flavor, with a bit more grain and drying spice power common with strong Belgian Pales, but the balance is excellent in this beer, and comes off highly drinkable. 3.75

(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, smooth, clean, moderately dry. Carbonation is moderate, generating a light frothiness and a moderately crisp finish. Body is short of medium for the style, shy of medium overall. Balance is evenly sweet to peppery spice, with a refreshing lightness throughout. Alcohol presence is very light and there are no off characters in this beer. 4.25

(Overall) I am quite perplexed at the lack of recognition that Jailhouse Brewing receives in the craft beer community, especially when their bottles make regular appearances in the craft beer-friendly, high volume shops in Atlanta. Incarceration may not be a strong beer or even a highly sought-after style, but many of the inspirations that the brewery takes from Belgian Strong Ales (Duvel was reportedly the inspiration) comes through nicely in this beer. Although I haven't seen this beer in some time in stores, it still tastes phenomenal one year out and I recommend it as a very enjoyable summer ale, although I would think twice about filing it under the "strong" category, as I think it's far more drinkable than that. 4

22oz bottle from Total Wine (Kennesaw, GA). 7.99. No bottling date but this was released within the past couple months. Served in a Clown Shoes snifter.

Pours a brilliant, clear golden yellow with a finger and a half white cap. The head shrinks to a modest halo that deposits small clumps of lace.

Smells of straw, mild lemon, yeast, clove and pepper.

Taste follows the nose. Lemongrass, pepper, clove, wet hay, mildly acidic tropical fruit, honey, bananna and just a little booze. Easy to drink with several layers of flavor.

Slick, medium body with sharp carbonation. The finish is a tad astringent but with some nice notes of bannana, tropical fruits, clove and honey.

Perhaps not my favorite from Jailhouse or even my favorite in the style but this is a solid American take on the BSPA.
