16oz can from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 12.99/ Justice Series 4 pack. Canned 11/15/18. Served in a Jailhouse snifter.
Pours a deep, opaque reddish brown with a full ecrue head. The dense froth gradually settles to a thin veneer, fluffy crown and some scattered pearls and trails of lace.
Aromas are a tad faint but pleasant. Grapefruit rind, cereal, pine cones and hop bread.
Flavors blend hops and malts quite well. Pine, grapefruit, caramel, floral pith and some mildly earthy bread. The hops have a faded, blandish quality that points to its age but the backbone is flavorful enough that this still works.
Pillowy fullish feel with ample carbonation. The lingering, bitter aftertaste is like desweetened grapefruit marmalade on piney hop toast.
Jailhouse continues their Justice Series with this third installment. Despite some notability faded hops Jailer is a solid and enjoyable red ale. I’ll be on the lookout for an opportunity to try this a bit closer to its brew date sometime.
