16oz can from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 12.99/ Justice Series 4 pack. Canned 11/8/18. Served in a Jailhouse snifter. Enjoyed 2/14/19.
Pours black with a tall cap of khaki head. That full froth settles to pretty much only a collar, with no other retention to speak of.
Roasty aromas of heavily kilned malt, lightly burnt fudge, creamed coffee and dark fruit compote.
The flavors echo the roastiness from the nose. Bitter pure cacao, dark fruit skins, cooked caramel, espresso, burnt toast and alcohol.
Smooth, velvety full body with gentle carbonation. Long, bitter finish with notes of charred brownies, burnt cherries and dark roast coffee.
Jailhouse concludes their long-running Justice Series with this RIS. Executioner is a particularly roasty iteration of the style but with plenty of dark fruyand cocoa to back it up. I wouldn’t mind stashing one or two of these away to enjoy with a little age on them.
