Kyle over-exaggerates my exuberance for this beer a tad bit too much. The appearance here was of a ruby red Oktoberfest which to me is weird but not too far off to get me worried. The aroma like many things here had that Belgian yeast aroma that gives off a banana like scent. In addition there were plenty of caramel aromas. I'm fairly certain hops weren't used in this beer for as much as I like malt bombs this one was a bit too sweet. The odd taste initially hit me as a dry sweet white grape flavor to accompany the caramel flavor that actually is typical. The mouthfeel of this one in particular was a shade too syrupy for my liking, but not too bad seeing as it was too sweet. The drinkability became easier over time. The initial sweetness was almost too much for my liking to the point where it was tart, but I got used to it and it wasn't all that bad. This beer is hard to call an Oktoberfest, it was actually more in line with some dubbels that I've had. But still as a beer is concerned it's not bad.

Served in a nonic pint glass at the brewpub.
Mike seemed to like this one, so I'm glad I'm able to sample it myself. (Of course, it should be noted that he is a fan of the style.) It pours a clear dark russet-amber topped by a half-finger of off-white micro-foam. The nose comprises caramel, biscuits, and a touch o' green apple. The taste is the same, though the green apple fades into the sunset quite a bit, leaving mostly the more malty aspects. The body is a light medium, with a light carbonation and a smooth feel. Overall, a solid O-Fest, though not necessarily near the top of my list o' that style. Pretty nice to sit and drink, though.
