Served in a snifter on tap
This beer pours a deep cloudy plum color that with the half finger of foam on the surface looks like a really pretty Dubbel or "Doo-bell" as the waitress kept calling it. The aroma was akin to amber rock candy that we recently used in brewing backed up by way too much banana for a dubbel to be putting off, but that's the house yeast of Lucky Monk for ya. The taste is rather similar to the smell, it's really super sweet. The mouthfeel is a tad on the syrupy side due to the sweetness and it has an overriding bubblegum flavor to it that I just don't get with Belgian beers. It's a pretty decent beer, but a little too sweet for my liking.

Served in a snifter at the brewpub.
This thing sounded pretty interesting and tasty from the menu's description, so I decided to take the plunge. It pours a hazy deep burnt brown topped by a half-finger of glowing off-white foam. The nose comprises amber Belgian candy sugar (sniff it and call me a liar!), molasses, raisins, clove, and red grapes. The taste holds notes of nutmeg, caramel, orange peel, cinnamon, bubblegum, light melon, red grapes, clove, and a light banana. The body is a straight medium, with a light-ish moderate carbonation and a dry-ish finish. Overall, a decent dubbel, but the taste is a bit off and the body just drops out from beneath. I think if they tweaked it a bit, it would be pretty good, but as it stands it's kinda weak.
