Served in a shaker pint glass at the brewpub.
This was tapped during my brother's thirtieth birthday yesterday. A good omen, says I. It pours a deep dark black-brown topped by a half-finger of sandstone foam. The nose comprises light charcoal smoke, black pepper, dark coffee, light roasted malts, and nutmeg. The taste holds notes of rye bread, pumpernickel, gingerbread, pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, light charcoal, light coffee, and some very light roasted malts. The body is a hefty-leaning medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a prickly feel. Overall, a strong rye beer, one that you can just sit back and enjoy for a while over a nice burger. Very nice.
