16oz shaker pint at the brewery.
A: Served a dark caramel color with a fuzzy off-white head that faded into a thick and fuzzy collar. Thick sheets of lace were left down the glass.
S: Grapefruit and citrus hops on the nose with a touch of pine and mild peppery spice.
T: Bready tasting with flavors of bread crust and toasted malt. I get tons of peppery yeast with just a hint of fruit. The spicy and bready flavors create flavors that remind me of a rye ipa. The description talks about tropical fruits and banana, but if they are there they are definitely overshadowed by the spicy, bready, rye like flavors. The finish is full of herbal hops with a touch of bitter pine.
M: Medium-full body, tingly and spicy/bitter mouthfeel, with tingly carbonation.
O: A drinkable enough beer, but definitely not what I was expecting. If this was a rye ipa it would be spot on as I would not have believed this was brewed to be a Belgian style ipa if the menu had not told me.
