Poured from 750mL bottle into a tulip. Bottled on 13 December 2012.
Appearance: pours a rich golden hue with a little hint of haze and a massive effervescence. Head is three fingers of pillowy ivory foam. Quite attractive indeed!
Smell: sweet malty aroma with a hint of apple, perhaps, but largely an extremely clean tripel aroma. Perhaps not a lot of character, but the cleanliness makes this feel expertly executed.
Taste: sweet malt with a little bit of honey nuance and a hint of a fiery alcoholic character to it. It's actually not terribly strong, but it kind of stands out because of the cleanliness of the flavor. I would like to try this same beer without the honey; that might take the edge off. Still, not a bad tripel.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a big carbonation and concomitant creaminess. Not bad!
Overall: I like this beer. I think the cleanliness is great, although the honey may have pushed the alcohol into too much prominence. I absolutely look forward to trying other Ambach beers, though, especially if they make another tripel.
