Beily’s Ultralounge / Beer & Wine Store

This used to be Shockwaves, which closed and was resur-rected as this place. A big patio area with umbrella-ed tables sat on the corner of 8th Street East and Campbell Avenue with the entry left facing, near their Off License shop. I was a little concerned that it was going to be just a pub, but sure enough, they had a wee tiny brewhouse in the back left corner and made four (4) of their own beers as well as having four guest taps and a number of bottles. The service was MUCH better here, plus I was famished by that point, so I had pizza for lunch. The semi-circular, black Formica-topped bar was to the immediate right, overlooking both the patio and 8th Street East. The left and right walls were lined with crescent-shaped booths. The center was filled with high tables and swiveling chairs made of wood and wrought iron. Calling a spade a spade: it had a 1970's-era night club feel with mirrors along the right wall, above the booths; a spinning mirror ball above a center wood dance floor that had been filled in with standard tables and miniature versions of those swiveling chairs. If that kind of décor bothers you, I suggest a daytime visit when things are more low-key. Gotta love the combo of USMC breath mints AND ice in the urinals. That would be my way of doing business - that or waterless. Onward!
