a nice drinkable malt forward brew here, a few shades darker than a lot of these common types are, and with a little bit of an old world yeast profile to it, its well made beer, smooth in the feel, and is very mild overall, simple and old school, the kind of beer i like in the fall. looks like a deep brown ale with a lesser body, and it holds a nice head. the nose here is almost roasted, with some deeply toasty warmth to me, a baked earthiness without any accompanying sugar, and a real harvest whole grain sort of vibe, plenty of chocolate notes in the mix too, very organic overall. the flavor is about the same, dark chocolate from the malt up front, some bran muffin and light molasses notes, toast crusts, and a sort of english yeast thing to finish it off, not overly complex, but well built and with a certain classic appeal about it. the grain is interesting enough, and i like the depth. its cool that the body is so light too, and the carbonation is good and high, so this really drinks easy for its color. one of the better beers i have had from these guys to date, and nice as autumn is starting to set in!
