“Hop Tosh” is a tribute to our master brewer, Tosh Brown, who camped his way from Oregon to Alabama to brew beer at Back Forty Birmingham. His West Coast IPA favors the Northwest style, coming in slightly less hop forward than its California cousins. It pops with citrus and tropical fruit hop aroma and has a sweet malt character that finishes dry on the back end. The result is a complex balance of awesome Summit, Chinook, and Amarillo hop flavors and aromas that makes this an IPA that’s sure to please.

Appearance: pours a golden copper color, with a sticky off-white foam head. Medium carbonation.
Aroma: A wonderful balance of pine and tropical fruit. Some malt in the background.
Taste: Nice and crisp. Beautifully balanced. Fruity with pine overtones, that kicks in with a good hop bitterness that lingers through the finish.
Overall: Wow. Amazing. Can't believe Alabama knows how to perfect a West Coast IPA. Truly impressed with this one.

I'm trying this at the Birmingham location. It poured a clear copper with thin white head that is leaving a nice lace. The scent had a pine and citrus hop mix. The taste was nicely balanced up front but finished with bitter citrus and the pallet residual was a bit strong. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a good beer.
