Had Hop Slaughter at Back Forty Birmingham brewpub, B'ham, Alabama, on draft into tumbler.

Pours a bit amber-gold with clarity, with 1/2-finger off-white head, which dissipates to a persistent ring, but leaves nice sketchy rings of lace down the glass. A little tart citrus and hop spice aroma off pour, joined by mild caramel malt and some pine resin as warms. Sweet malt and carbonation bite to start, then stone fruit carries into nice caramel malt, and finally lots of pine arrives for a balanced malty, bitter finish.

Nice cross between classic malty but balanced midwestern IPA and an early, mostly piney west coast IPA.
