Served on-tap at LAB (Lexington Ave Brewery) in Asheville, NC
A: Pours a clear but almost opaque very dark brown in color with some minimal amounts of gentle visible carbonation along the surface of the beer and some garnet red highlights. The beer has a half finger tall creamy dark tan head that slowly reduces to a thick film covering the entire surface of the beer with a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Light to moderate aromas of fresh sweet raspberries over the top of some lighter aromas of roasted malts.
T: Upfront there are light flavors of roasted malts with some hints of bittersweet chocolate. That is followed by a light flavor of fresh raspberries but without a lot of associated sweetness. Light amounts of bitterness towards the finish but that fades rather fast.
M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Creamy from the nitro-tap but just a touch on the thin side.
O: Overall this is a well balanced porter with natural raspberries - bitter enough from the roasted malts to match the sweetness of the raspberries but not overpowering with either flavor. Nice and subtle. Pretty easy to drink even on a warm summer afternoon.
