Our take on the American Amber ale is made with a generous amount, and variety of, caramel malts which gives it a tasty, toasty, malty finish.

Served: in a pint glass from the bar tap.
Appearance: rich, copper color with a low off-white head; what you'd expect a good amber to look like!
Scent: distinguishable strong hoppy aroma; no malty overtones. Not what I expected.
Taste: is this an amber? It has IPA screaming at my taste buds. bold and bitter, but not invasive. A surprise for your mouth on the first sip. You know it when you take a pull!
Feel: peppery carbonation, and light.
Finish: it's light on presence but leaves a bold, hoppy finish. You know, like an IPA!
Overall: a decent selection if you're in the mood for an IPA, but not one of the best. I was looking for a smooth amber when I approached the bar. I wanted the balance between bitterness and maltiness that a true amber should have. I doubt that I'll ever order another one.

Sampled on tap 2/5/05 at Cedar Brewing. Arrives with a deep amber caramel color with a small bubbly head on top. Leaves some nice lacing on the way down. Smooth caramel tones with some light fruitiness..a bit subdued in the nose overall.
First sip brings a nice sweet caramel upfront with hints of grapefruit, citric hoppiness. Slightly astringent with nutty, butterscotch and toasy notes thrown in as well. Not bad overall..but it seems to be missing something.
Smooth, slightly creamy mouthfeel with small bubbly carbonation. A nice amber ale that was worth a try, but it doesn't have me running back for more.

A solid rust color with a nice head that doesn't fade away and great lacing. Nice.
Complex and wonderful odor. Nice buttery diactyl blends with ripe fruit esters and a sweet, dry malt smell.
Tastes very much like it smells. Diactyl pervades a mix of dry citrus, burnt toffee malt and a hop finish that's just bitter enough. No single flavor is so prominent as to override another--they all coexist is harmony.
Easily the best beer I've ever had at the Cedar Brewing Company. A fine example of its style.

On tap 9/15/04 at Cedar Brewing Co.
Copper colored with a low off-white head. Prominent unpleasant buttery diacytyl aroma and flavor dominates over everything else. Light bodied with a biting finish.
A very poor Red Ale; American, Irish or otherwise... way too buttery and one you should ask to taste before buying... maybe this was a bad batch because I don't remeber it being this bad during prior visits...
Per beer menu: "Irish Red" & per CB website "Malted barley and Crystal malt"
