A: Heavy red wine aroma, followed by aromas of cherries, faint hint of strawberries, followed by an acidic sourness
A: Deep amber, slightly opaque – touch of garnet
F: Red wine taste seems to dominate, followed by some fruity complexity from the blend of malt and fruit (cherries/strawberries). Touch of sourness and hop bitterness on the finish.
M: Medium-light bodied, slight carbonation
O: Bruin, aged for 9 months in French Oak Barrels with cherries and strawberries. Pretty solid Bruin, but the wine aromas from the barrel are a little too over-powering and overshadow a lot of the fruit highlights, especially the delicate flavors the strawberries impart. To lessen the strong flavors, I'd like to see this beer aged on French Oak, instead of wine barrels. Alternatively, it would be equally delicious to keep the wine barrels and perhaps use a type of berry that’s strong enough to stand up to the red wine, such as cherries, raspberries or blackberries. However, if stronger fruit flavors are used, the beer may need to be aged longer to smooth some of these intense berry flavors.
