Dang if this ain't one of the oldest backlogged reviews ever. Coming to you from the 2006 Bistro Double IPA festival. And yet still the 1st review of this beer on BA. Even though it was at the DIPA festival, I've classified it here as a single ipa, because you know, 6.5%. . .
Poured a familiar sight for that era: orange color, 1/3" off white head. The aroma was different even for its time. I think they might have been still using German hops? Had a lot of caramel maltiness and floral bittering hop in the nose.
Taste was pretty good, they didn't skimp on the ibu level hoppy bitterness, usual suspects of grapefruit blossoms and crystal malt flavortown wise. Hefty malt body bouyed it all well. Was one of the first steps in another direction I had seen out of Sudwerk, was all lagers before this one. Was a nice respite at the festival, where every other beer was between 8 and 12% abv, this was a little journey off the beaten path with a hefty crystal malt bill and what seemed like maybe noble hops.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
