Bourbon Barrel-Aged Version of this Belgian Dark Strong Style Ale. Made with Pilsner, Vienna, Abbey, Aromatic, Special B, Perla Negra malts, and Belgian Candi Sugar gives this brew a rich malt character and unique sweetness. The Candi Sugar and Special B malt lend raisin and plum flavors and a deep amber color. Styrian Goldings hop gives a little balance and a noble spiciness, but little to no hop bitterness. The use of a Belgian Yeast Strain, at slightly higher fermentation temperatures, adds estery, alcoholic, and spicy character. Complex, rich, smooth, and dangerous. Our first ever beer from the family of Belgian beers.

I really love The Abbot and could only imagine how much better the BA version could be.
A - Deep brown color that is ruby in the light. Small off-white head with fine bubbles with good staying power. Very clear for a Belgian beer. Sticks to the sides of the glass.
S - Very rich smell with great depth. Initially you smell the sweet bourbon with vanilla, oak, and caramel. There is a light Belgian yeast character, some dark fruit, and lots of rich malty goodness.
T - Very similar to the smell but with a more robust sweet character and less of the bourbon character. The bourbon only compliments and doesn't try to command the beer's sweet flavors like malt, caramel, and raisins. You still get the oak, vanilla, and bourbon characters in each part of the palate but they aren't harsh or the main flavors. Followed shortly after by the Belgian spice character along with some esters that give great depth of flavor. Slight bitterness, alcohol warmth, and more caramel on the finish but all are soft and easy finishing.
M - Full to medium mouth-feel. Light carbonation. Similar to the OG but has a softer and more slick feeling finish from the bourbon which I really like with my bourbon and my beers. Still sweet and somewhat sticky but smooth and tasty too.
Overall, a tremendous beer. I really like the original Abbot's sweeter character and the barrel really adds great depth for this beer. It is lighter in flavor and body than most bourbon barrel beers I've had but this beer nails the barrel complimenting the flavors instead of focusing on the bourbon notes. Again this beer is quite sweet, not huge mouth-feel, and less Belgian character than I would expect but I loved this beer.
