Pours dark and oily, with a thin layer of head that dissipates quickly. Smells of bitter roasted grains, dark chocolate, peppery spice, and green apple. The latter takes a leadership role on the palate, with bitter and floral hop character leading to a dry finish.

This beer is pretty incredible. While the dark, maltiness certainly reigns supreme, there is a concomitant fruitiness (perhaps from the hops or rye grain) that really drew me in.
