Barleywine style ale made with Maris Otter and Irish pale malt. Hopped with Galena hops to balance the sweetness. This winter brew is a red color with a bold malt character.

22oz bottle purchased at the brewery in November 2020 at 6 years of cellaring. They list this as an English Barleywine 9.2% ABV. Pours barely cloudy darker amber with a meager tan head on a hard pour. The head recedes to an irregular ring and persists. The aroma is moderate in strength featuring prune, leather, brown sugar and a little booze. The taste is semisweet and follows the nose with prune juice, leather, caramel, dark brown sugar, raisin etc. Mild bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with less than medium carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, very, very good. Amazing for 6 years old. People's and their annual Christmas release are now on my radar.

22 oz. bottle into a tulip glass
A - Beer pours a 1 1/2 finger head with a moderate pour. Head is a light foaminess in character and dissipates very slowly to a thin lacing with creamy edges. Head is off white in color. Moderate carbonation visible with small bubbles rising quickly towards the surface. Beer itself is clear and ruby red in color (dark ruby). 4.25/5
S - The aroma is very sweet and consists of caramelized sugar (slightly burnt but not overly so), bubblegum, dark stone fruit, and is slightly boozy. Grainy maltiness forms a backbone for the sweet aroma along with herbal hops, leather, and honey making appearances as well. 4/5
T - Candy sugar and dark stone fruit come out immediately on the palate. These notes transition quickly to a cereal maltiness with a bit of raw grain in the middle. Bitter herbal hops, leather, and musty hay come out about 2/3 of the way through with the bitterness from the hops and a green apple note lingering for quite some time. The puckering from the green apple is significant. 3.5/5
M - Scrubbing bubbles is the best way to describe the carbonation. Not really a burn, and not really a tickle. Medium-full body with significant drying in the 2nd half of the sip. Sticky up front before the dryness kicks in but this stickiness goes away very quickly. Leaves the mouth very dry, almost like an IPA. 3.5/5
O - As sweet as the aroma is, the flavor does not live up to the aroma hype. Much more bitter, tart, and puckering than anticipated. 3.5/5
