This is the seCANd in a run-through of beers that came to me CANtesy of @jkblr for inCANsion in The CANQuest (tm), but this one is even cooler than the first! I am unsure of when it first dawned on me, but outside of my alma mater, Pitt, I prefer (most of) the Big Ten teams. I will NEVER root for State Penn & the inclusion of MD & Rutgers over Pitt still rankles. I only knew one guy in my 15.25 years in the Navy who rooted for Purdue, but he was a SeaBee, not a Boiler Tech (BT) & he planned to get out to attend, so he was definitely CANmitted!

Wow! How cool is that? I celebrated by Crack!ing open the vent as I beCAN a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. I was elated by its formation of just over a finger of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with modest retention that slowly faded into wisps. Before I could finish the thought, I was joined by the raucous Gelt Gang of Mammon, Midas & Croesus, all clamoring not only for a taste, but for the spent CAN, already earmarked for Jeff Lebo's CANlection. Color was a gorgeous solid-Gold (SRM = 5), like liquid sunshine in my glass. 8=O Beautiful! Nose was pleasantly hoppy, slightly grassy to acCANpony a toasty maltiness. This smelled like what the Notes from Lou City had led me to expect from THAT beer, only to be disappointed. Mouthfeel was medium, on-par for the style, but nothing about which to get excited. The taste had a nice hoppiness to round out the toasty, not bready, maltiness, which this site's Style Guide says should not be "... particularly dominating ..." in either insCANce. Bingo! This was a pleasant, "... easy-drinking beer that is visually appealing ..." as per the Guide. I might have liked to have been able to drink it while watching Purdue in either football or basketball on the Big Ten Network, but that was too much to wait to have happen when this came up in my rotation. Finish was in that nebulous Twilight Zone between semi-sweet & semi-dry. It made for a quaffable interlude after CANother night of work at the Post Office. YMMV.

 

 

 

Pretty good, but overhyped (if you're a Purdue Student). Got a keg of it for around $125. Certainly better than a domestic brew.

16oz canned 9/28/18 (2 months ago) poured into a nonic pint glass at fridge temp, no ABV listed on can. The beer pours mostly bright golden straw yellow with off white head. The head recedes to some puffy patches and a ring leaving some lacing. The aroma is very clean revealing only a hint of grain and fruit. The taste is pils malt up front transitioning to mildly bitter fruity, grassy and floral hops on the back end. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied, adequately carbonated and dry in the finish. Overall, very good. More APA than ABA in my book, but enjoyable all the same.

A: The beer is clear yellow in color and has a slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a short white head that left a large patch of bubbles on the surface.
S: Light aromas of biscuit malts are present in the nose along with hints of floral hops.
T: The taste follows the smell, having flavors of biscuit malts along with notes of fruity yeast and hints of floral hops. There is a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has a nice amount of fruity and biscuit flavors compared to other beers in the style.

Taste: crisp grainy bread, caramel malts, smooth finish. Semi sweet bready nose. Golden hue, unfiltered, white foamy head with some lace. Medium light body. very drinkable. 15 IBUs

All ingredients researched by Purdue University and grown by local farmers. It's a golden ale. You know what it tastes like yet this iteration it clean, crisp and fairly flavorful. Toasted pilsner malt and a touch of bitterness. Pretty good.

An officially-branded Purdue University beer from People's Brewing Company. Marketed as an "American Golden Ale," which fits in terms of color, but the flavor profile is more in line with a highly-malted, very biscuity traditional cream ale or adjunct lager. I'm drinking it after pouring from the pint can into an IPA glass, but I can see how this would be a satisfying alternative to the usual macro offerings at sporting events.
