American Porter brewed with Sugar Creek Maltings base malt, Caramalt, Aromatic malt, and German Carafa Special to lend a malty roasted character which pairs perfectly with Copper Moon Coffee added post-fermentation resulting in a medium body and a smooth coffee flavor. Family owned Copper Moon Coffee sources premium, sustainably grown, Arabica beans from farmers across five continents and roasts several coffee varieties locally in Lafayette, IN. We chose their Colombian dark roast for its well-balanced rich aroma and fruity notes.

16 oz can courtesy of Jacob.
Very dark and effectively opaque. Pours a decent sized tan head, creamy and lingering.
A strong roasty / coffee aroma, but almost in a medicinal way. Some chocolate and malty sweetness.
Has a notable tart/acidic character throughout, some dark malt character, but is overpowered by the weird coffee flavors (I think). A weird fruity tartness in the finish, along with some roastiness.
Light-medium body, and medium carbonation. Not overly drying despite the weird tartness.
Coffee beers are hit or miss for me, and this one was a miss. Don't know if a dark roast coffee was used, or if the coffee was heavily utilized, but seems to overpower this beer in a negative way. Might work better with a stronger malt bill in a more "imperial" porter.
