American style Wheatwine made with a variety of malts including 2-row and white wheat from Sugar Creek in Lebanon, IN. This celebratory beer has a warming character made for the winter holidays. Fruity esters and the citrusy hop aroma from Idaho 7 make for a bright and spicy Christmas ale, while the malted wheat creates a golden haze. Ardelle Johnson, Owner Chris Johnson’s grandmother, loved the Christmas season. We brew a different beer each year named “Ardelle” and release it on December 1st, her birthday 11.2% ABV, 50 IBU

750mL bottle released 12/1/21 (3+ months ago) poured into a tulip glass at 50° Fahrenheit 11.2% ABV per brewer's website. The beer pours mostly bright medium amber in color with meager light khaki head. The head recedes to an irregular ring and leaves little lacing. The aroma is mild with an unexpected citrus & pine note. The taste is bittersweet malt with notable ethanol and more of the pine & citrus hop flavor. Moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with less than medium carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, not great. This is way outside the curve for a wheat wine with little malt, harsh hopping and notable alcohol presence. Drinks like a poorly made triple IPA. My first real miss in this series, but also the freshest I've sampled.
