Small pour from a 750 mL bottle into an Old Guardian glass at 52° Fahrenheit 8.5% ABV 60 IBU per brewery website. The beer pours very dark amber with mahogany highlights and khaki colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and island of tiny bubbles. Sparce lacing. The aroma is very dark caramel or toffee along with dark fruit followed by earthy, woody hops. The taste is malty & bittersweet with a mix of caramel, toffee, and a light touch of roasted malt. There are notes of dark fruit, pipe tobacco and cedar. Moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium plus bodied with low carbonation and a mostly dry finish. No alcohol notes in the aroma or taste. No noticeable oxidation. Overall, very good.
