I really enjoy oatmeal stouts so I had to give this People's Brew-Co spin on it a try.

A - Deep brown almost black color kind-of cloudy. Pours thick with a fluffy cream head with extra strong lacing.

S - Strong stout smell with roasted, malt, and oatmeal all culminating in the glass.

T - Good flavor with a robust character. Malty, roasty, chocolaty, and some toffee/caramel taste. Light bitterness that adds balance and overall not too skewed with any attribute.

M - Robust mouth-feel with lighter carbonation. Very silky feel and a lingering sweetness that makes it a great beer but not quite as good as Samuel Smith.

Overall, this oatmeal stout is the delicious and fits in this style. It isn't as heavy as a RIS and it is more drinkable but still full of sustenance. It has everything for the dark beer drinker. It's also a nice change of pace if you are used to drinking dry stouts like Guinness because of the improved flavor and body. I would recommend this to anyone that likes darker beer.

Glass- Nonic Imperial Pint

REGULAR, non-nitrogen pour into an imperial pint glass. Deep ruby colored, bordering on black, with a nice large white head.

Smells like medium-dry stout. Not all that much grain roastiness but a tiny kiss of hops. Tastes very much the same: pretty tame for an oatmeal, but nice and smooth with some solid coffee complexities.

This would be a real good entry level stout.

For some reason, the citizens and publicans of Lafayette are enamored with using nitro taps for all their beers. A certain pub, which shall remain nameless, ruined a keg of otherwise perfect Shakespeare stout by subjecting it to that bastard gas. For shame. Anyhow, if you're in town and you want a pint of this, be sure to get it without nitro. That's key. Because it sucks on nitro.

 

 

 

On tap at Tomlinson Tap Room. Pours deep brown, but not quite opaque. Small beige head fading into a ring leaving decent lacing.

Smells of roasted malt with a little coffee.

Roasted malts, chocolate, oatmeal and a little espresso. The espresso comes out a bit more as it nears room temperature, but I'd still prefer a bit more.

Mouthfeel is solid. Oats provide a nice creaminess with lower carbonation levels. Best part of the beer.

I enjoyed this one. A little more espresso/coffee flavor would definitely round this up for me. It was nice, but would've been better with some added oomph.
