Purchased in December 2021 from Plonk in Canberra, Australia, and drunk in August 2022.
This one pours a deep, chicken soup yellow. There's a bit of haze in the glass and evident carbonation. The head is bright white and whispy and dissipates quickly, leaving a half centimetre rim of foam around the edge.
The nose is lemon, zesty lemon peel and pith. It's initially pleasing but I also detect a soapiness that's a little like lemon-scented dishwashing detergent.
Taste is very citrus-forward, with lemon and lime and a mild, hoppy bitterness. It's very spritely and refreshing. The soapiness from the aroma doesn't appear to leach into the taste.
Mouthfeel is on point, with a medium body and expected prickling from the carbonation.
This is a nice beer that gets marked down from the darker-than-expected appearance and the slightly off aroma. Once it's in the mouth it's a really nice beer, but ultimately we're drinking with all of our senses and it's marked accordingly.
Cheers!
