This is probably the kind of beer you either really like or really dont. The character is too bold, the bitterness too brazen for middle ground opinions. Train Ryed is a summer seasonal for Liberator, and although I caught a pint in October at the tail end of its availability I was served a fresh and invigorating brew. It was memorably enjoyable.
Rye beers can be very dry and crisp. Train Ryed succeeds in delivering these attributes along with a smart snap of bitterness that damn well bites the palate. The brew is straw gold with fine luster and a slight citrus cloudiness. The faint, grainy aroma is kept in check by low carbonation, leaving no head or lace to be seen.
Liberator Brewing Company sits immediately adjacent to the railroad tracks in Troutdale, and when those mile-long freights roll by, the entire building trembles. Train Ryed seizes upon this authority to deliver a great thirst quencher and food compliment with an abundance of clarity and quality.
