This should be so much better than it is. Maybe the bar didn't clean the line well enough or something, but this has a distinct orange soda taste to it that I really don't understand in the style. It looks just a shade darker than a normal kolsch and has a really nice earthy nutty sweet coffee aroma to it, on top of pale German malt, really appealing, but it breaks down in the taste. Seriously, this tastes like orange Fanta of all things, maybe some weird fermentation reaction with the coffee, but I drink a lot of coffee beer and have never seen this. Sweet and citric, odd after the nose, and not bad, just not at all what I signed up for. I think it's neat this is organic, and I am completely on board the blonde coffee beer train, but this just never really comes together. Asher has been really hit or miss over the years for me, and while this has a whole ton of potential, it is in fact a miss. I will try this again, I suspect a dirty old cider line or something, not sure how else to explain what's happening here...
