Big 750 ml corked & caged jug poured into a proper pint glass, warmed gently from the fridge. Got this at the Toulouse Christmas Winter Market.
Brewed & bottled by Unibroue for Planet Bison, a Canadian company that sells its products in France.
Pours rich, dark and full-bodied with a generous coffee-colored beige foam topping dark amber brew.
Nose is roasty malt, molasses and warm spices.
Taste is brown bread, a spice combo of clove and nutmeg, dark candi sugar, Belgian yeast and caramel that meld together well. Balanced by noble hops, it’s smooth, not-too-sweet, complex, and finishes with a sneaky bite from the 9% ABV.
Mouth is medium-full and rich, surprisingly high active carbonation.
Overall, a delicious (but familiar) Christmas ale, enjoyed with the cookies I intended to leave for Santa.
