Sweet, sour, bitter and fruit, even Lagunitas can't help but give the kettle sour trend a try. With the bold hop flavor that piles on the berry forward, tropical and orchard fruit variety, they now introduce a clean lactic sourness and peppermint to the complexity to give the session a strong resemblance to sweetheart candy to show Aunt Sally's sassiest side.
Pale, mostly clear and with a lightly hazy, ruby glean, the saucy ale rolls along with an arid white, pillowy froth. With a host of berry, tropical and citrus fruits abundant, the nose picks up on the tangy scent of cider, sharp rose wine and sour grape. Light with taffy, confectioner's sweetness and hard candy, the lightly toasted, cashew and sourdough greet the early palate delicately.
The middle palate shows a quick decline of malt while a host of lemon, lime, crabapple and white grape hit the middle palate running. A bold overflow of red berries provide an overcast to trailing pink grapefruit and gooseberry for a full and fruity succulence ahead of savory passionfruit, cranberry, raspberry, currant and kiwi. The sour, tangy and acidic fruit flavors seem endless.
Medium-light in body, the beer's simplicity is its charm. Restrained on its more earthy characteristics, its the finish of winey, gin-like bitterness from hops and a late bite of eucalyptus, menthol and peppermint provide a complexity to the simpleton beer but also a spicy distraction that's very oddly placed.
