Shilshole Bay IPAShilshole Bay IPA
Notes: This HomeGrown Ballard IPA is brewed just for our hood. It’s a fresh and orange-citrus juicy PacNorthWest Coast IPA chock-full of our favorite Yakima Valley hops and Skagit Valley malts, named after our favorite Bay just down the way!

Lagunitas makes a big deal of this being a "Ballard-Brewed PNW Coast India Pale Ale" and being "Ballard Brewed & Canned" so I'm adding it under the Seattle location instead of Petaluma. And the five hops are from Yakima Valley, and the malt is from Skagit Valley.

Pours an attractive clear yellow with adequate foam. Modest spritz on the tongue. Quite aromatic with peach, mango, and pine. Clean fruity taste with a moderate bitterness. A pleasant hoppy brew, and Lagunitas seems to be trying to be more Northwest than thou. From the 12 oz can purchased in the far Northwest. Stamp on the bottom reads "Ballard Brewed 04/27/21."

12oz can (date 4/27/21) poured into 16oz tulip. Poured a lightly cloudy honey-gold color with just a quarter-inch of white head that had very low retention and no lacing.

The was a lightly sweet malt base, topped with some citrusy hops. There was also a bit of frootyiness in the hop profile as well.

Fairly similar on the tongue as well. Sweetish malts at the front, bitey hops in the middle, and some frooty hops on the end.

The body was medium, leaning towards full, mostly smooth with a bit of coarseness across the palate, and a finish that started sweet, but dried out a bit.

Drinkability was, fine no issues, but I wasn't urged to get another either.

Overall, a solid, but unnotable brew. Try it or don't.
